Meeting Notes, Tuesday, Jan 13th, 2004

We had a very productive meeting this past Tuesday, the 13th. The brainstorming was fast and furious. We had two new comers: Shelly Jackson from TWU and Mike Stanko, an independent involved in community based activities.  We selected two significant dates:

1. Our NEXT MEETING FRIDAY, February 6th 11:30 AM-1 PM…

2. The tentative date of our annual event called "The Career Resource Forum," sponsored by the local Chapter of the ACP International…

Friday, April 23rd, over the noon hour.

OUR Ongoing CHALLENGES (Homework for thought for our next meeting)

1) What's in IT for you?? It is important to us that all who may elect to become involved, here, gain from the experience. What does such a win-win look like for the organization you represent? For YOU, personally? Let's keep asking ourselves this question as a reality check.

2) What do you see as next steps? As a group with larger agenda's, we are beginning to put definition to our community based activity… ACP International's Career Resource Forum. We need your suggestions for other representatives from related community programming… see the list of potential participants in the Cliff’s Notes below.

CLIFF's Notes of the meeting...

I. WHAT could be the nature of our Career Resource Forum?

An annual event (4/26/2004) open to all participating organizations’ Members and the public (as we begin to gain identity in the community)… a web based resource of information, available for ongoing dialog, resources and other info announcement… regular, face to face meetings of participating Membership meant to share best practices, identify resources, discuss current issues, etc… a "turnkey set of resources" to provide a baseline package of services and resources to the community.

II. WHO are possible participants in The Forum?

Academic Resource Council

Career Consultants

Career Consulting Firms

Internal Career Center Staff

ACP International Technology Partners: INSALA

Texas WorkForce Commission

Coaches Federation (specifically, Career Coaches)

The Temp and Contract Recruitment world

And from the land of Association acronyms:

ACP, APT, ASTD, OD Network, ACA, SHRM… others?

The Institute for Non-Profit Management

If you have contact information for any key individuals representing these organizations, please get them to me so I can call them and put them in our growing distribution list. Simply contact Bob Maher with your info for posting.

III. NEXT STEPS

1. Help us network to increase attendance at our next meeting, Friday, February 6th, at a location to be announced (any volunteers?)

2. If you have contact information for any key individuals representing the organizations listed above, please get them to me so I can call them and put them in our growing distribution list.

3. Give some thought to defining the offering of The Career Resource Forum… I welcome specific thoughts in email form prior to each meeting. "OUTSIDE THE BOX THINKING" is appropriate for this first of its kind effort.

Our Chapter's VISION STATEMENT...

To be the premier ACP International Chapter recognized for leading-edge professional development of its members and fostering supportive and collegial relationships.  We will represent the broad spectrum of career services practitioners and be highly respected by business and community for our professionalism, outreach, ethics and vision.
